The amputation of both of Vidal’s legs above the knee resulted from an automobile accident. Vidal’s health insurance would cover only basic walking legs for him. However, as an active young man, Vidal knew that the high tech legs available to above the knee amputees would give him a better chance at doing the things he loved before his injury, including going to college. However with a price tag of $100,000+, these legs were out of reach for Vidal.
