2018 marks the fourth year that Team Limb-it-less will cross the finish line on Boylston Street, having raised funds to help amputees obtain prosthetic devices. Being a member of Boston’s Team Limb-it-less is an incredible honor. If accepted to the team, not only will you have the opportunity to cross the finish line of the world’s oldest and most prestigious marathon in its 122nd year, you’ll also be making a big impact in the lives of amputees. The funds that you raise will allow us to provide grants for prosthetic devices that victims of traumatic circumstances would otherwise not be able to afford. Last year’s team assisted in allowing us to grant 19 year old Vidal of Chicago, IL two above-the-knee high tech prostheses, 37 year old Derk of Pittsburgh, PA a below-the-knee prosthesis that will allow him to go back to work and support his two little girls and 20 year old Noelle, a UMASS student, a water proof prosthesis that allows her to shower and swim.
A spot on our team is not to be taken lightly – there are requirements to which you’ll have to commit including responsibility for entrance fees, meeting a $7,500 fundraising minimum, rigorous training, among others. You’ll become an ambassador for HAF and be charged with educating others on our mission and soliciting their support. More details and application can be found here!
In exchange, aside from your Boston Marathon experience, you’ll be a part of a great team, managed by our partner, Susan Hurley of Charity Teams, where you’ll receive training tips, travel assistance, organized training runs (in the Boston area) and much more. You will also be invited to a team dinner at the beginning of the training season as well as to our marathon weekend fundraiser and send off party.
We are so thrilled in your interest to run for HAF! We look forward to reviewing your application!
